Pam Riley, JD, LCMFT, joined TRI Board in December, 2008, following a year of volunteer grant-writing and staff support for TRI's outreach efforts. Pam's background includes training as a marriage and family therapist, two decades in a legal career in international telecommunications, and coalition-building experience for the consumer health website HealthCentral.com. Pam currently works as a private sector specialist for Abt Associates in their International Health Division. Other nonprofit activities include serving as the Legislative Liaison for the DC Chapter of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists Middle Atlantic Division, and serving on the board of the US Technical Training Institute. Deborah Small, MD, is a board certified family medicine physician and a member of the faculty at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Arrowhead Regional Medical Center is affiliated with UC Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Small currently serves as Associate Program Director for the Department of Family Medicine's residency program. Dr. Small's work encompasses teaching family medicine residents in the ICU, ambulatory medicine, and labor and delivery. Her interest lies in the care of women and children. She played an integral role in establishing the obstetrics curriculum for the residency program and coordinates the ALSO course, a multi-hospital training program. She has played an active role in her community, volunteering for several organizations. She has been a strong advocate for the The Knotts Group Home, a place that cares for "at risk" pregnant teenagers. In addition, Deborah has lectured alongside Elaine Miller-Karas, introducing the neurophysiology of psychosomatic medicine to other professionals at the National conference of Teachers of Family Medicine and at the World Congress of Psychosomatic Medicine. She also volunteered as a training facilitator for Trauma Resliency Model Training in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Back to Top

Lillian (Billie) Maguire was educated at Wake Forest University and the University of Edinburgh. Her master’s degree was received from Bank Street College of Education in New York City. In 1998 she was awarded anhonorary doctorate from the Claremont Graduate University honoring her advocacy for children. Ms. Maguire chaired the Claremont Youth Partnership from 2001 until 2006. She is the administrator of an endowment fund created by the Board of Trustees of Claremont Graduate University and named for her to raise consciousness to the plight and needs of children through the annual Lillian P. Maguire Social Advocacy Forum.  In 1999 she received the Award for Lifetime Leadership from the national Children’s Defense Fund. Ms. Maguire's outstanding service to children has been acknowledged by the Claremont Rotary Club,Casa Colina Hospital,Pomona Inland Valley Counsel of Churches and the American Red Cross. In addition, in 2002 she received the Silver Service Award for Women of Achievement from the YWCA of the West End, honoring eight of 200 outstanding Inland Valley women who had previously received the award during the past quarter century. She founded and for many years coordinated the East End of Los Angeles County ChildWatch, an affiliate of the Children's Defense Fund, whose annual conference she co-chaired in 1997 in Los Angeles. Her primary activity currently is as President of the Children's Advocacy Center, a unique service that provides forensic interviews and referral services for sexually abused children and their families. Ellen Elgart has been a psychotherapist in private practice for more than 30 years in Washington, D.C. and Santa Fe, NM. She has specialized in the areas of both acute and collective trauma and work with LGBT populations. She was the Senior Editor of IN THE FAMILY magazine for 10 years and for 5 years helped organize and run the magazine's national conference. She has worked clinically with 9/11 survivors, was on a data collection team 1 year following the 2004 tsunami in Thailand and on teams in Louisiana collecting data and providing trauma education to survivors of hurricanes Rita and Katrina. Her training has included a broad range of clinical interventions, specifically somatic experiencing and imagery. In addition, she has years of public speaking experience and Executive Board work. Ms. Elgart has been involved with TRI since its inception and has served as coordinator and facilitator and is now teaching occasionally. She has been on three TRI training teams in China and has traveled with TRI to Africa. Ms. Elgart is a poet and avid traveler and has spent extended periods of time in Asia, primarily in China, Tibet, Thailand and Indonesia.  Back to Top
